Culinary Institute of New Orleans Jazz Brunch TV

That's the theme of the television program that incorporates great cooking with music, tours of great cities and much more. It's mixed into a one huge pot of gumbo we call Jazz Brunch TV.

The Jazz Brunch TV show is produced by the Culinary Institute of New Orleans in association with Marketing A.P.S. of New Orleans and currently airs several times a week on WLAE-TV 32, one of two local Public Broadcasting stations in the New Orleans Metropolitan area. The show is a regional PBS TV show that airs in the New Orleans broadcast area, and into Mississippi on cable.

Jazz Brunch TV is hosted by Bob Koehl alongside the Head Chef of the Culinary Institute of New Orleans, Lonnie Varisco who showcase a number of regional dishes on each show along with a few new twists on how to create them. Dishes like Crawfish Etouffee, Blackened Stuffed Pork Chops, Chicken and Andouille Sausage Gumbo, New Orleans BBQ Shrimp and Marinated Crab Claws are some of the featured items that are prepared on the shows. The shows are taped at the Chef's Table Restaurant at the Culinary Institute. A cooking segment with the Culinary Institute is featured in every episode.

The remainder of the show’s format is wide open, spotlighting Louisiana traditions, people, culture, businesses, and arts.

The show is also featuring a wide variety of segments videotaped in other regions. Chicago’s episode showcases a gospel church, and building with insulated concrete forms (ICF) “Concrete Homes”. Houston’s episode profiles a non-profit home for the developmentally handicapped, where its residents produce beautiful handicrafts — making the best efforts they can to provide for themselves.

Episodes on Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada; Jacksonville, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina have also been produced. Another special episode covers the New Orleans convention of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA).

Jazz Brunch TV will also be going on the road this year to present special events featuring many of the stars of this special series. Check back with this site to learn more about these events.
